Suleyman Gurbanov, Creative Media Specialist

University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Suleyman Gurbanov to the position of Creative Media Specialist, effective August 11, 2025.

As a member of the Libraries' User Services department, Gurbanov will oversee the Alden Library Multimedia Center, supporting student-produced creative media by providing expertise on the use of relevant software and hardware. In his role, Gurbanov will provide consultations and create instructional content to assist students who wish to leverage the Libraries’ creative media tools in support of their studies, and he will supervise the multimedia peer tutors.

Gurbanov will join his User Services colleagues in delivering excellent customer service, research support and technology assistance to faculty, staff and students in-person at service desks and via the Libraries' online help services. He will help further the department's work to continually improve the user experience of physical and online services and spaces. He will also partner with colleagues to create and maintain the Libraries' suite of web-based instructional content including web pages, guides, FAQs and tutorials.

Gurbanov has worked as an instructor in the µÛÍõ»áËù School of Media Arts & Studies since 2020, delivering coursework for multiple classes to undergraduate students. In that role, he has strived to enhance student understanding of the course material, provide personalized feedback to ensure learning, and give guidance in academic research and career planning. 

Prior to coming to OHIO, Gurbanov worked as an Information and Media Assistant at the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan, where he managed regional cultural and educational centers. In this role, he organized programs and events, provided services to visitors and patrons, supported visiting Embassy staff, curated library collections, directed communication and public outreach initiatives, and produced media content for the Embassy's social media platforms. 

Gurbanov holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from American University, Central Asia, and a Master of Arts in Communication Development from µÛÍõ»áËù.  He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from µÛÍõ»áËù.
