Section 7.1: Application & Selection Procedures
Policy No. 7.1.01 Application and Selection for Psychology Trainees:
OHIO Clinical Psychology graduate students can be considered for a trainee position at CPS by following the procedures outlined below. The Assistant Director for Training (ADT) will communicate this process to potential candidates during the spring semester, prior to the traineeship year.
Procedures:
- Approval to apply from the OHIO Psychology Department Director of Clinical Training (DCT).
- Submission of a completed Psychology Training Application
- Satisfactory completion of an interview with the ADT and other designated CPS staff.
- Submission of feedback from the DCT regarding the applicant鈥檚 readiness, strengths, weaknesses, and growth needs.
- Satisfactory completion of the first two years of required coursework within the Psychology Department鈥檚 curriculum, including practicum requirements.
- Ability to provide academic course schedule and semester availability to CPS before the training year starts (typically by July 1).
- Trainees must be able to commit to at least 16 hours per week at CPS for two semesters.
- Ability to attend all Group Professional Supervision (GPS), training seminars, and orientation.
Policy No. 7.1.02 Application and Selection for Counseling Practicum Trainees:
OHIO Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate students can be considered for a practicum trainee position at CPS by following the procedures outlined below. The ADT will communicate this process to potential candidates during the fall semester, prior to the practicum semester.
Procedures:
- Approval to apply from the OHIO Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Internship Coordinator.
- Submission of a completed Counseling Intern Application, available on the CPS website.
- Satisfactory completion of an interview with the ADT and other designated CPS staff.
- Satisfactory completion of the required coursework before beginning CPS placement, as listed in the Application.
- Submission of feedback from the academic program鈥檚 Internship Coordinator regarding the applicant鈥檚 readiness, strengths, weaknesses, and growth needs.
- Ability to provide academic course schedule and semester availability to CPS before the training semester starts.
- Practicum students must be able to commit to at least ten hours per week at CPS for the spring semester.
Policy No. 7.1.03 Application and Selection for Counseling Master鈥檚 Interns:
OHIO Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate students may be eligible for a counseling internship at CPS by following the procedures outlined below. The ADT will communicate this process to potential candidates in the spring semester prior to the internship year.
Procedures:
- Approval to apply from the OHIO Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Internship Coordinator.
- Submission of a completed Counseling Intern Application, available on the CPS website.
- Satisfactory completion of required coursework before beginning CPS placement, as listed in the Application.
- Submission of feedback from the academic program鈥檚 Internship Coordinator regarding the applicant鈥檚 readiness, strengths, weaknesses, and growth needs.
- Completion of a practicum at CPS, or submission of a completed Counseling Intern Application Packet and satisfactory completion of an interview with the ADT and designated members of the interview team.
- Ability to provide academic course schedule and semester availability to CPS before the training year starts (typically by July 1).
- Counseling Interns must be able to commit to at least 20 hours at CPS for fall and spring semesters.
- Ability to attend all GPS, training seminars, and orientations.
Policy No. 7.1.04 Application and Selection for Advanced Social Work Interns:
OHIO Social Work graduate students can be eligible for an advanced Social Work internship at CPS by following the procedures outlined below. The ADT will communicate these expectations to potential candidates during the spring semester, prior to the internship year.
Procedures:
- Be a registered student, in good standing, in the second year (at the time of beginning internship) of the two-year, full-time program in the master鈥檚 in social work program.
- Submission of a completed Social Work Intern Application, available on the CPS website.
- Submission of feedback from the academic program鈥檚 Field Coordinator regarding the applicant鈥檚 readiness, strengths, weaknesses, and growth needs.
- Satisfactory completion of an interview with the ADT and other designated CPS staff.
- Ability to provide academic course schedule and semester availability to CPS before the training year starts (typically by July 1).
- Social work interns must be able to commit to at least 20 hours at CPS for fall and spring semesters.
- Ability to attend all GPS, training seminars, and orientations.
Policy No. 7.1.05 Application and Selection for Clinical Counselor Graduate Assistants (GA):
OHIO Clinical Psychology or Counselor Education graduate students can be eligible for a Clinical Counselor Graduate Assistantship at CPS by following the procedures outlined below. The ADT will communicate these expectations to potential candidates during spring semester, prior to the assistantship year.
Procedures:
- Be a registered student, in good standing, in the third year or above (at the time of beginning the GA year) in Clinical Psychology or in the first-year or above in the Counselor Education doctoral program.- If in the Counselor Education doctoral program, the student must have previously earned a master鈥檚 in counseling, including a completed master鈥檚 level practicum and internship.
- The applicant must be eligible to apply for LPC licensure and/or have equivalent experience.
 
- Submission of a completed Clinical Counselor Graduate Assistantship Application, available on the CPS website. Including letters of reference, with at least one letter from someone who can speak to relevant clinical experience.
- Complete an interview with the ADT and other designated CPS staff.
- Be able to commit to a 20-hour per week assistantship and provide academic course schedule and semester availability before the training year begins (typically by July 1).
- Ability to attend all GPS, training seminars, and orientations, as assigned.
- Eligibility for renewal of the Graduate Assistantship must meet the following criteria.- GA meets academic program鈥檚 criteria for eligibility for a tuition waiver and GA appointment
- Graduate Assistantship is contingent on successful completion of the assistantship in the prior year at CPS, with no outstanding remediation processes.
- GAs must reapply with the online application and complete an interview with the ADT and other designated CPS staff.
 
Policy No. 7.1.06 Application for Health Service Psychology Doctoral Interns:
A psychology graduate student must meet the entrance criteria outlined below to be eligible for a Health Service Psychology Doctoral Intern position at CPS.
Procedures:
- Be a registered student, in good standing, at or beyond the third year in an APA-accredited doctoral level program in clinical or counseling psychology.
- Have successfully completed all preliminary or qualifying exams required by the home program before application due date in November.
- Have successfully proposed dissertation by APPIC site ranking deadline.
- Have completed all doctoral expectations from the home program by July 1st of the entering internship year, except for completion of the dissertation.
- Have completed supervised practicum and clinical placement experience to a minimum of 1000 total practicum hours, a minimum of 400 hours must be direct service.
- Provide three letters of reference, at least two letters must be from recent clinical supervisors.
- Provide a signed Certificate of Readiness from the home program's Director of Clinical Training (DCT), indicating intern candidate's readiness to enroll in the internship, and attesting to the intern candidate's match with the above-mentioned criteria.
- Able to commit to a full-time, twelve-month internship. In support of international internship candidates, the length of internship may be modified to 50-51 weeks in alignment with relevant statutes.
- Demonstrate substantive consistency between candidate's interests and the goals and philosophy of the 帝王会所 CPS Health Service Psychology Doctoral Internship.
Policy No. 7.1.07 Selection for Health Service Psychology Doctoral Interns:
As an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral internship site and a member of APPIC and the National Matching Service, CPS abides by the policies and procedures set forth by these organizations.

- All internship applications are considered confidential information and kept in a locked file cabinet/secure computer file for at least seven years.
